73 Opel GT Electric Conversion
Electric Vehicles… Oddly, the question I get asked the most is…Why? Why would I spend all that money up front to save a little money each fill-up? After all, fuel has only gone up a couple of bucks…right? Then again, I get the same questions about my other “green / energy efficient” projects in and around our house, so I’m used to them. Since there are numerous reasons as to why, such as the environment, national security, health, costs now, and future costs, not to mention the mere prospect of supply availability in the future, I always thought it would be easier to answer why not. Why not? Only two valid reasons come to mind, and that is current available funds to do so and ability / knowledge on how to do so. As far as funds go, we made some changes and reprioritized our ideals, and put our money where our heart was. Another big impediment could be ability and knowledge. Thanks to the internet knowledge is taken care of, and I guess I’m lucky enough to be a relatively good problem solver and pretty mechanically inclined to cover the ability part of the equation. This is not to say that we are not learning as we go and that it has been smooth sailing. Quite the opposite. But with perseverance and our end goal kept always in mind, success will be ours, as well as a wealth of hard won knowledge and confidence. Thus begins the saga of our first ever electric car conversion….
